Historical Note: KUHT-TV debuted on May 25, 1953, as America’s first educational television station, since then it has served as a model for other educational television stations. Its main goal is to provide quality programming to students, faculty, and the entire community. KUHT predates the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). Its history includes award-winning local and national productions, including a national Emmy Award for excellence. KUHT is licensed to the University of Houston, and is located in the LeRoy and Lucile Melcher Center for Public Broadcasting located at 4343 Elgin, on the northeast corner of the main campus.
