Name: Open University Records (1970-1979)

Historical Note: In 1969, The University of Houston was one of four universities in the United States to utilize this new concept in education. The purpose of the “Open University” program was to provide better university education for large groups of students through successful self-study programs which covered the relationships between the sciences and society and the arts and society. Through the use of a wide range of multi-media material, including closed circuit television and radio programs and self-study texts, students were able to learn on their own without being required to spend numerous hours in the classroom.
