Name: Houston Map Company

Historical Note: A plat map is a public record containing maps of land, showing the division of the land into streets, blocks, lots, and the boundaries and dimensions of the lots. These plat maps are maintained by the county clerk’s office and are the official record of the city’s lot and block system. At one time, title companies, surveyors, and others who used the maps regularly in business often bought their own copies to keep in their offices. The Houston Map Company and others reproduced and sold these plat maps in bound volumes.
